What do the artifacts tell us about the lives of early humans?

The artifact my group had to work on is a very interesting cave painting in Argentina. This cave painting has a lot of different objects and shapes in it. One of the things we noticed is that the acoustic inside the cave is particularly strong and loud at the exact location of the painting. That tells you that the early humans  probably held some celebrations and festivals while combining sound and the painting. Another interesting idea my group and I share is that the hand prints in this painting symbolize children when they reached a specific age or did something memorable.

Artifacts in general show us that early humans had no other way of showing us their culture and their traditions but by painting on cave walls.  For example the cave painting in Lascaux, France tells you that many early humans lost their lives while hunting wild animals. We suppose that this scene expresses a big part of their lives as they had to constantly hunt in order to survive.  They also tell us what type of material and what type of tools they used to hunt and kill animals. Even pots from that period of time were found leading us to believe that the meat was cooked and not eaten raw. They also used shells as jewelry. Scientists think more and more that they already had an organized society. Artifacts can give us a hint to how people survived in the early human time zone, and it surprises me to find certain similarities between them and the modern day humans.

What fascinates me most is that the early humans had the ability and the tools to pass on their traditions and lifestyles even until today. Artifacts will always be around and probably people in the far future will admire our tools and the artifacts we have left behind as a certain generation. So all in all I think artifacts are a great source to cite the past.

This is my groups artifact. In Argentina.

Social Scientist

I have always been a hands-on type of person. I never really liked to just sit at my messy desk and do exercises in a book. I loved doing experiments, building things, looking for things and always getting my hands dirty. After listening to the exciting stories of my grandfather, who once was an actual archaeologist,  I have ever since wanted to become one too.

One of the reasons I find archaeology interesting is because you are not only able to go on a thrilling search for ancient artifacts from the past, but you are also able to analyze your findings and visualize the past in front of your own eyes. You get to touch things that people have touched 1000 years ago.  You can imagine what life was like and how people behaved. You get to look for graves and bones and evidence as to why the past was the way it was. You might find a tomb of a ancient pharaoh and examine his or her death. You can examine bones that you have found. There are archaeological sites all over the world, where only archaeologist are allowed to go to. I find history very interesting and would find it fascinating to be able to find evidence of the past.

Another reason to why I would like to become an archaeologist is, being able to travel around the world. I have traveled to many countries where there are some famous archaeological sites for example, Turkey and Greece. I grew up traveling all over the world with my family and I find it very fun. You get to see the difference in each country and compare them afterward. You get to find out more about the history of culture in the particular country that your a searching/studying in. And everywhere the culture is different, so it will never be boring and I will always have something to do and learn. I don't want to sit in an office and do paperwork, I want to travel around and go to different places and learn interesting things about that countries past.

Last but not least, my final reason of why my dream job is to become an archaeologist is because it is not a problem, for me, getting my hands dirty.Tying back to what I said in the beginning paragraph,  I would love to dig around in the dirt to find bones and artifacts. Using different tools to build together a skeleton would be so much fun. Discovering a secret tunnel where people might have hid and lived in, 1000 years ago. Analyzing art work found on rock walls, finding pots and pans they used to cook in. The thought of using small utensils and tools to carve out dirt and to brush off dust is really exciting. I like to go outside and discover new things and I think that archaeology would fit to my characteristics perfectly.

All in all I think archaeology is fascinating and would be an amazing, fun job. In fact as I said in my my first paragraph my grandfather  was an archaeologist too, so I think it would be nice to have the same dream job as my grandfather. I hope that one day I have the chance to become an archaeologist.

Introduction

Hi my name is Melina,  and I have finished my first week of  Middle School. I am from Germany and Greece and have two sisters. I really like Midlle School. It is a lot of fun. My favorite colour is green because that is the colour of the earth and because it is such a rich colour.

The last three books I have read are "Hanni und Nannni," which is a German book by: Enid Blyton. It is about two twin sisters being sent off to boarding school and the problems they have to face in that enviroment . Then, I read an English book called "Life On The Refrigerator Door", written by:Alice Kuipers, which is about a mum and her daughter communicating on the refrigerator door. Last but not least  I read a book called "Dizzy" written by:Cathey Cassidy. It is about a girl called Dizzy who's mum left when she was young and every year she got a postcard or found a package in front of  her door sent by her mum. However one year she finds her mum in front of her door.
The last movie I saw was called "Letters To Juliet". I watched it in Greece and it was a very cute movie. The cinema I watched it in had no roof!! The movie is about a girl called Sophie Hall who goes to Verona, Italy with her fiancee. She was doing some sightseeing when she came past a wall where people would write letters to Juliet about there relationships. She then joins a little group called Juliets secretaries and they write back to the letters the women put on the wall. One day Sophie finds a letter from an old women that was written 50 years ago, and she helps find the women her love of her life.

My academic goal this year is to keep my grades high and produce strong work so I can be proud of myself and my family too.

My social goal this year is to keep up my old friendships and start new ones. I also want to be of help for the new students.I have met some really nice new people so i would like to start hanging out with them but also have sleepovers with my old friends from Elementary school.

My favorite vacation memory is probably going to New Zealand over the last winter holidays. My family and I went to the South Island and had the time of our lives. We did the craziest things for example going on a jet boat and swimming with dolphins. The landscape was beautiful as well.

I would describe myself as nice, flexible, ambitious, sporty and funny. Some sports I play are soccer, baseball, basketball and swimming.
